Rentalo.com Reveals Traveler’s Trends on Hotels versus Vacation Rentals Comparison Shopping, Vacation Planning, and Themes for New York City, Catskills, Hamptons, Lake Placid, and Adirondacks

Miami, FL. March 3, 2010 – Rentalo.com, a leading lodging and vacation rental directory that facilitates comparison shopping for trip planners in the US and abroad, is publishing a series of trend analysis studies on inquiries submitted by its database of opted-in travelers.  In this release, the lodging directory reveals the study findings for 19,168 opted-in travelers who searched for vacation rentals in New York’s top destinations from July 2008 to January 2010.  This study confirms consumer’s high demand for comparison shopping, as well as other interesting findings on vacation planning and vacation themes for these popular vacation destinations in the sate of New York.

Travel Trends for New York City (Includes Manhattan)

NYC Comparison Shopping Trends: According to the study, 68 percent of the vacation planners who inquired for a place to stay in NYC showed interest in comparison shopping among New York City vacation rentals, bed breakfasts, and hotels. 57 percent also accepted offers from properties in NYC’s vicinity area which includes Astoria, Edgewater, North Bergen, Weehawken, Woodside, Bronx, Ridgefield Park, Secaucus, East Elmhurst, Hoboken, South Hackensack, Carlstadt, Whitestone, Belleville, Hasbrouck Heights, Flushing, and Hackensack.  
New York City Vacation Planning Trends:  37 percent of the travelers were early planners who started their vacation planning 2 or more months in advance from the travel dates, 27 percent of the inquiries were from travelers who inquired 1 to 2 months in advance, and nearly one third or 33 percent were from last minute travelers inquiring within the last 30 days prior to the arriving to their NYC lodging.
New York City Vacation Themes: 31 percent of the inquiries requested accommodations for 2, 23 percent for groups of more than 4 adults, 22 percent for families with children, and 17 percent for people traveling alone.

Travel Trends for Catskills

Catskills Comparison Shopping Trends: According to the study, 66 percent of the trip planners showed interest in comparison shopping among Catskills vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and hotels.  66 percent showed interest in staying in the vicinity of Catskills which includes Windham, Hensonville, Hunter, Tannersville, Prattsville, Elka Park, Phoenicia, Highmount, East Durham, Big Indian, Mount Tremper, Palenville, Bearsville, Woodstock, and Greenville.
Catskills Vacation Planning Trends:  48 percent were from last minute travelers inquiring within the last 30 days prior to the arrival date, 24 percent of the inquiries were sent 1 to 2 months in advance, and only 22 percent were early planners who started their vacation planning 2 or more months in advance from the travel date.
Catskills Vacation Themes:  The most popular vacation theme for Catskills is family reunions with 47 percent of the traveler’s inquiries requesting accommodations for groups of more than 4 adults, 31 percent from families with children, 31 percent for couples, and 4 percent for people traveling alone.

Travel Trends for The Hamptons

Hamptons Comparison Shopping Trends: According to stats collected, 67 percent of the vacation planners showed interest in comparison shopping among Hamptons vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and resorts.  53 percent showed interest in comparing quotes for lodging in the Hamptons area including Hampton Bays, Springville, East Quogue, Jamesport, Westhampton Beach, Southampton, Mattituck, Water Mill, Riverhead, Northville, Cutchogue, Remsenburg, Bridgehampton, Calverton, Reeves Park, and Peconic, and Sagaponack.
Hamptons Vacation planning Trends:  Stats show that vacation planning is dominated by early planners with 53 percent of the inquiries coming from those who started their vacation planning 2 or more months in advance from the travel date, 25 percent of the inquiries were sent 1 to 2 months in advance, and 17 percent were from last minute travelers inquiring within the last 30 days prior to their arrival to the Hamptons lodging.
Hamptons Vacation Theme Trends:  The most popular vacation theme for the Hamptons area is family reunions with 57 percent of the traveler’s inquiries requesting accommodations for groups of more than 4 adults, 25 percent for families with children, 14 percent for couples, and 14 percent for people traveling alone.

Travel Trends for Lake Placid / Whiteface area

Lake Placid Comparison Shopping Trends: 64 percent of the travelers who searched for short term accommodations showed interest in comparison shopping among Lake Placid vacation rentals, bed breakfasts, and hotels.  66 percent showed interest in lodging quotes from nearby destinations including Saranac Lake, Wilmington, Keene Valley, Jay, Lake Clear, and Loon Lake.
Lake Placid Vacation planning Trends:  38 percent of the travelers were early planners who started their vacation planning 2 or more months in advance from the travel date, 25 percent of the inquiries were from travelers who inquired 1 to 2 months in advance, and 34 percent were from last minute travelers inquiring within the last 30 days prior to the arrival date.  
Lake Placid Vacation Theme Trends:  Lake Placid / Whiteface’s most popular vacation theme is family reunions with 53 percent of the traveler’s inquiries requesting accommodations for groups of more than 4 adults, 39 percent for families with children, 22 percent for couples, and 2 percent for people traveling alone.

Travel Trends for Adirondacks

Adirondacks Comparison Shopping Trends: 77 percent of the trip planners showed interest in comparison shopping among Adirondacks vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and hotels.  36 percent showed interest in comparison lodging quotes from nearby destinations such as Long Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, and Indian Lake.
Adirondacks Vacation Planning Trends:  45 percent are early planners who started their vacation planning for 2 or more months in advance from the travel date, while 20 percent of the inquiries were sent 1 to 2 months in advance, and 32 percent were from last minute travelers inquiring within the last 30 days prior to the arrival date.  
Adirondacks Vacation Themes:  Adirondack’s family vacation getaways account for 46 percent of the traveler’s inquiries requesting accommodations for groups of more than 4 adults, 30 percent for families with children, and 19 percent for couples.
