The Pacaya Volcano

There are over thirty volcanoes spread all around Guatemala’s highlands that characterize the skyline of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Located at 7,447 feet and only three-hour drive from Guatemala City, Chichicastenango is a mountain village known for the traditional Maya Indian culture and its vivid market place. On Thursdays and Sundays the market place becomes alive and lures locals and tourists with hand-crafted goods, food, flowers, pottery, condiments and much more. Right next to the market is a 400-year old, glorious, white-washed edifice: a church of Saint Tomas where shamans continue to perform their rituals until today.

Lake Atitlan
