"Amazingly quick response. Not only did I get notification from Rentalo, but less than a day later, an email from the condo owner, a phone call from her (she lives about 25 miles away) and an offer by her to put me in touch with friends living in Mazatlan. She also answered many question and offered to bring back lots of information when she makes a trip down there this next month. Thanks for the professionalism."

Things to do in Peru

Having a rich ancient cultural heritage, Peru is a magical spot full of colonial traditions and historical sites. Picturesque cities, the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco and the lost city of Machu Picchu are all waiting for tourists in Peru. Massive peaks of Peruvian Andes, steep canyons and exciting pre Columbian archeological sites offer visitors a myriad of activities.

Peru’s diverse topography, outstanding natural resources and cultural heritage provide travelers with countless attractions and things to do. Besides such wonders as Machu Picchu, there are other numerous archeological sites in Peru which are a legacy of even more ancient times, displaying the art, customs and ritual of great civilizations. Those who like adventure and extreme sports can count on amazing trekking, rafting or hang-gliding in Peru.

The Lost City of Machu Picchu

Often called “The Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu is the most familiar symbol of the ancient Inca Empire and one of the seven new world wonders. This ancient city is divided in two sectors: the agricultural (terraces) and the urban featuring amazing squares, temples, palaces, stairways and water fountains. Both flora and fauna on Machu Picchu are abundant and varied and give this location a unique harmony. Tourists can admire 90 different species of orchids, wildcats, butterflies and spectacled bears. There are many organized tours to Machu Picchu including trekking, rafting and horseback riding.

Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, lying at 12500 feet above sea level in Peruvian Andes. Its amazing shining waters contrast with the red and brown hills of the mountains creating a unique picture. There are over 40 floating reed islands on the lake inhabited by an interesting culture called the Uros, whose lifestyle and community is built upon reeds that grow in the ample shallows of the lake. The Uros live in reed huts, sail in reed boats and produce unique reed handicrafts. Besides floating islands, Lake Titicaca has also many real ones such as Sun Island that lure tourists with many ancient Inca monuments.

Puno is a major port on Lake Titicaca known from its unique local customs and traditions. Considered the folklore capital of Peru, Puno boasts up to 300 different types of dances which can be seen during annual festivals. It is good to visit Puno in November when locals celebrate the legendary birth of the first Inca, Manco Capac.

Inca Trail

Known as being one of the world’s best trekking destinations, Inca trail consists of numerous paths built by the ancient civilization to unite the main administrative and religious centers of their empire. The most important trail is the one that connects the city of Cusco with Machu Picchu. There are many trekking tours offered to visitors depending on their psychical condition. During those amazing walks tourists are challenged by long staircases and high altitudes. They can also admire breathtaking mountain views and Inca archeological sites.

The capital of Peru – Lima

The capital of Peru, Lima is the country’s cultural and business center. More peaceful than other world capitals, Lima has a rather dreamlike atmosphere mostly caused by garua – a mist that settles over the city between May and October. In the capital you can tour numerous museums and churches displaying treasures of Inca Empire and visit splendid samples of Colonial architecture. If you want to take a break from sightseeing, visit one of many Lima’s beaches and enjoy water sports fun.
